Function Therapeutics, Inc. is a newly incorporated research firm developing novel approaches and molecules for the treatment of certain inflammation-driven disorders, including kidney disease, thrombosis, and neurodegeneration. Its first research lab will be opening in the spring of 2022 in the Dept. of Chemistry & Biochemistry at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. To help build our next generation of anti-inflammatory compounds, we are looking for several business executives and enthusiastic “drug hunters” with interests in synthetic organic/medicinal chemistry or pharmacology to join our team.

The Medicinal Chemist will work with chemistry colleagues and consultants to design, synthesize, purify, and characterize organic compounds for use in medicinal chemistry studies. They will also work with company biochemist(s) to interpret assay data and prioritize new compounds. The Medicinal Chemist will initially work with the Chief Scientific Officer to set up new lab equipment and associated workflow, and implement chemical and compound inventory systems. They are responsible for maintaining a safe work environment, keeping diligent records using electronic lab notebooks and related databases, and assisting with the preparation of patent applications and manuscripts. They may also assist with the supervision and training of junior scientists. This is a full time position. A flexible benefits package (including stock options) will be provided.
B.S. or related degree in Chemistry or Biochemistry
Demonstrated experience in organic synthesis
